Have you seen our "killer infographics?"

Donna Darby-Walthall,
Chief Financial Officer
As out of the box thinkers, we are willing to go that extra mile for a new idea. We are always searching for new ways to reach more families and educate them about the funeral industry.

Connecting Directors recently raved about the educational infographics published to our Facebook page created by Trigard's marketing department. If you aren't familiar with infographics, I recommend you do some research. They are a very interesting way to present information to make it more appealing to the reader.

I encourage you the take a look at the infographics and share them with your customers.

5 reasons to go to a cemetery

4 things you didn't know about cremation

6 reasons to go a funeral

5 reasons to prearrange your final wishes

As members of the Trigard family, I encourage you to get out there and educate your families. To be effective, we need to be constantly educating so that when the time comes, they will make informed decisions. I would like to motivate you to make it a goal to start thinking outside the box and do something new to educate your families. It depends on you.

2014 NCBVA Benchmark Survey

The National Concrete Burial Vault Association is asking all concrete burial vault producers to complete a benchmarking survey. "The report will provide an executive summary and detailed results designed to provide comprehensive, yet straightforward guidelines for analyzing profitability among concrete burial vault producers. This management tool will again provide the resources that enable NCBVA members to evaluate, plan and better manage their businesses."

NCBVA's goal is to have 80% of the membership complete the survey in 2014 with future years seeing 100% participation. It should take no more than 30 minutes to complete. A complete report will be sent to all participants the first week of April.

How are you different?

Rich Darby,
Chief Operating Officer
In the funeral industry, we have been doing things the same way for decades. But what use to work in the past doesn't seem to be working anymore. Business is getting harder, and the fun is disappearing. Or is it?

What if you woke up tomorrow morning and you decided to commit yourself to improving your business and doing something new? You decide to forget about the "price slashers" and the "bad mouthers" and instead look at everything as an opportunity.

I would like to challenge each of you to face tomorrow with a new mindset. Ask yourself, "What am I going to do differently today?" The future of this industry is in your hands. You know this industry. You know your customers. You know how to succeed. Someone can always make it cheaper, but that is not a stable business model. Those who weather the storm, reinvent and diversify will succeed. So buckle up and tighten your seat belts, and join me on this ride. See you at the top!

Are you having the talk?

Linda Darby,
Chief Executive Director
As many of you know, I am an active member and this years president of the Funeral and Memorial Information Council (FAMIC). And, I have had the great experience of helping make their "Have the Talk of a Lifetime" campaign a reality. It has been amazing witnessing the key funeral service organizations unite around a common goal and develop a campaign of this nature.

The goal of the "Have the Talk of a Lifetime" campaign is to get consumers talking about what matters most in their lives and how they want to be remembered. They recently won a gold award for "Integrated Campaign" from the 11th Annual Service Industry Advertising Awards competition! Out of 1,700 entrants, only 152 gold awards were distributed. Isn't that amazing?

I am thrilled to be a part of this effort, and I am asking you, my funeral service colleagues, to join me in making this campaign an even bigger success. And, you can start by going to Facebook and "liking" their page at www.facebook.com/HaveTheTalkOfALifetime.

If you want more information on how to get even more involved in the "Have the Talk of a Lifetime" campaign, you can visit the FAMIC website or email me at LindaD@trigard.com. I would love to talk to you about this amazing opportunity.

Experience is your best resource

Jeff Miller,
Vice President of
Business Development
Recently in my home town of Toledo, Ohio, we experienced the loss of two local heroes in a tragic fire. This kind of incident can be overwhelming for any community, big or small. The planning of a high profile funeral, such as the one for these two local fire fighters, experience can be your best resource.

As funeral directors, cemeterians and burial vault suppliers, we all play a significant role in the planning and execution of a funeral ceremony and community celebration of life. It has been my experience that no one person can effectively plan, manage and execute all that is necessary to deliver a well-orchestrated and seamless service. When we combine our resources, delegate and partner with other professionals, we are more successful than if we tried it alone.

When you have the responsibility of planning a high profile funeral, draw upon the experience of those involved. Be sure to create a detailed agenda and have a well-planned, preliminary meeting with community leaders who will want to be involved.

If you ever run into a situation like this and you need some support or suggestions, reach out. Remember, experience is your best resource. So, feel free to call me at 419.290.7707 or email me at jeffm@trigard.com. If I don't have the answer, I will connect you with someone who does.
