Offer the families you serve the best protection

As the winter season approaches, give the families you serve the warmth of caring about their protection.

A Trigard lined, sealed burial vault provides a clean, dry casket space, protecting the family's loved one as well as their investment in the casket. Unlike single-layer outer burial containers, a lined burial vault's layers of protection work together to provide strength you can count on.

What is your mission?

Ryan Snyder, Plant Manager

A couple of years ago, at our Trigard Convention, I had the opportunity to share what I felt the mission of the Trigard manufacturing team was. That statement was as follows:

"To provide ever increasing value to all of our stakeholders, including customers, associates, suppliers, and our community. Based on core values of integrity, trust and mutual respect, we will drive continuous improvement in all aspects of our operations, striving for excellence in safety performance, innovation, manufacturing productivity, product quality, customer satisfaction, and associate development and teamwork. As a company, we willingly accept the responsibility to be good corporate citizens and will actively engage and support the communities in which we reside."

Providing increasing value to all of your stakeholders is critical for long term success and viability. This starts with understanding who your true stakeholders are (recognizing that those stakeholders include your own employees) and being open and willing to change. We cannot stay where we are today and continue to bring increasing value to those stakeholders.

So what is your mission? Have you documented it and shared it? Are you actively pursuing it? It will be the road map that leads your business to continued success.

Iowa Concrete provides family with custom graveside service

We love to see one of our dealers think outside of the box to provide a family with a unique and memorable graveside ceremony. Mike Eckhart and the staff at Iowa Concrete just sent us these photos of a custom service they provided for a family that owns a tractor parts company.

The service included four flag poles, two tractors, and a balloon release. What a beautiful tribute.

We would like to thank the staff at Iowa Concrete for providing this family with such an amazing graveside service. Keep up the great work!

Watts Vault & Monument Co. invests in next generation of funeral professionals

Watts Vault & Monument Company recently hosted a group of mortuary science students from Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny, Iowa.

Watts has been dedicated to helping educate aspiring funeral directors since the mortuary science program was first offered at the college in 2004.

During their visit, the students learned about burial vaults, bronze and granite memorials and infant and child products. They also got a chance to tour the manufacturing facility and learn how burial vaults are made.

We would like to thank the staff at Watts Vault & Monument for taking time to help educate the next generation of funeral professionals. Keep up the great work!

Wilkes-Barre Burial Vault educates funeral professionals

Our friends at Wilkes-Barre Burial Vault recently held an open house and education seminar at their newly renovated facility in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

Jeff Miller, Trigard Vice President of Business Development, spoke at the event. He discussed established vault principles and how to properly educate families and clients of the services and products we provide.

Guests were able to tour the facility, and staff members were on-hand to answer any questions. Food, door prizes and other giveaways completed the event.

Our special thanks go out to Terry Vonderheid and the staff at Wilkes-Barre Burial Vault and Sunlight Crematory for taking the time to help educate other funeral professionals.

Trigard dealer adds creative touch to graveside service

Our vault dealers are always looking for ways to help families remember, celebrate and heal - especially at the graveside. Sometimes that comes from a product (like the Healing Tree®), but often it's the dealer's own creativity that makes the difference.

Nick Pirro of Quality Vault and Casket Company in Leominster, Massachusetts, shared this photo of the extra touches he put on a recent graveside ceremony. The custom paint on the nameplate, along with the dove and flowers, add warmth and beauty to the outside of the vault.

Nick Pirro went above and beyond to create a personalized tribute for this family. That's what it means to be Trigard strong.

What have you done for a graveside ceremony to add a personal touch? Email us at marketing@trigard.com, and you may end up in our eNewsletter.

What do you really know about your competition?

Jeff Miller, VP of Business Development

Do you spend a lot of time thinking about new ways to grow your business and get ahead of the competition? Maybe it's time to take a closer look at the competition.

Learning all you can about your competitors is essential. Factual information about their product offerings, level of service, and customer training programs can open your eyes to new ideas. It also gives you a basis for judging your company's strengths and weaknesses.

Once you get to know your competition you can begin asking questions like "what do they do that we don't?" and "do they offer products and services that we don't?" The information you gather can be used to develop your own unique approach and customer presentation.

You should also ask "What do we offer that our competition doesn't?" If you are a Trigard dealer, you should have no shortage of answers to this question. One example of a unique product that offers great value is Trigard's Aegean® Healing Tree®.

Give me a call at 419.290.7707. I will gladly share the many success stories and details as to how this approach has helped many of your fellow Trigard dealers to grow their business one new account at a time.

Start studying the competition. After all, when you understand your competition it makes it easier to explain your value to your customers.

Don't stop asking why

Beth Vadeboncoeur, Accountant

At a certain age, a child's favorite word is "why." Why do I have to take a bath? Why do I have to eat my vegetables? Why do I only see stars at night? A child's mind is always searching for answers and questioning why the world is the way it is.

As we grow older and become adults, we tend to stop asking those questions. We just accept things as they are.
Have you stopped asking "why" when it comes to your business? Do you have the mindset of "that is the way we have done it for years?"

As business owners and managers, we should be constantly asking questions. Are there improvements to be made in our production processes? Are there items or services that we purchases that aren't needed anymore? Are we missing opportunities to grow our business?

Take a minute to step back and look at your business. Are you missing opportunities for growth or savings by not taking a minute to ask why?

Iowa Concrete honors a fallen hero

Our friends at Iowa concrete recently had the privilege of helping celebrate the life of a man that was a retired fireman and Army veteran. The graveside service included two flag poles, to show his dedication to both the Army and fire department, and some of his equipment from his time as a fireman.

We extend a special thanks to Mike and the rest of the staff at Iowa Concrete for going the extra mile and making this service so special for this family.

At Trigard, we are always ready to assist our network of dealers as they honor our fallen heroes. To learn more about the services we provide, call customer service at 800.637.1992.

Let us help you design something unique

Julia Sullivan, Creative Director

As Creative Director, I hear a lot about what other vault companies offer. And it's great. Our dealers let me know how we stack up, good and bad. What's great about that is it helps me and my team develop tools and products that are even better.

Our appliqués are a great example. Our image library (always available at www.trigard.com/Applique.html) has a good assortment of stock images. But between you and me, they're just that: good. Not great.

But that's by design! Our design team chose images that are lovely on their own, but are at their best when they serve as backdrops for a family's cherished photographs. A picture of vibrant, yellow tulips or a mallard in flight (two of our images) transform into something special when we add a name and dates for a family. But nothing matches the power of seeing a vault decorated with family photos on a custom appliqué.

But what if you don't think you're a creative person? What if you can't imagine what a custom appliqué would look like? Just relax! That's my team's job!

All you need to do is gather a few photos from the family, scan them at a high resolution, and send them to us with the name and dates. Our creative team will make something amazing for you. And you'll get to share it with the family before we print it.

The next time you have a family who needs something really unique, call 800.637.1992 and talk to us about a custom appliqué.

Aegean disinterment video

We placed an empty casket in a white marble Aegean® burial vault. The lined, sealed burial vault was placed into a grave in Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis. The grave was dug, prepared and backfilled like any other grave in the cemetery. Here's what we found when we disinterred the vault. It's a great illustration of the function of a lined, sealed burial vault.

5 percent or 30 percent?

Stuart McDaniels, Materials Manager

Which do you think is easier to do, reduce your costs by 5 percent or grow your sales by 30 percent?

Recently I was told by a respected colleague of mine, who just happens to be a C.P.A., that a 5 percent reduction in costs equated to a 30 percent increase in sales for the average business.

Think of it this way: If your current profit margin is 5 percent and you reduce costs by 5 percent your profit doubles!

What would you have to do to increase your sales dollars by 30 percent? Hire more sales and support staff? Work more hours? Expand your market?

Now think about what you could do to lower your costs by 5 percent without sacrificing quality. You could implement a green/sustainability plan (energy efficiency, water efficiency, recycling, waste reduction, maintenance, etc.), pay invoices early in exchange for a discount, or manage your inventory to avoid purchasing what you don't need. I'm sure you will agree there are many more ways, and none of them are as daunting as thinking up new strategies to grow sales by 30 percent.

As a Trigard customer, we want you to succeed. We care about costs because we know you do. You benefit from our cost reduction efforts just as we do from our suppliers' efforts. When we work efficiently we all become stronger.

Staying on top of change

Ryan Synder, Trigard Plant Manager

For many people, change is a word that brings on much worry and stress. But change is necessary for survival. So how do we stay flexible in this changing environment? Through continuous improvement and innovation.

Continuous improvement is not a themed item for a monthly or quarterly initiative. It is a long-term commitment to addressing necessary changes in an effort to bring about improved products, services and processes. As Trigard's plant manager, I see how our team is focused on continuously improving our products and processes to bring more value to the families you serve.

In the plant, the continuous improvement tool we use the most is the Deming PDCA Cycle (Plan, Do, Check, Act). We identify an area where change is needed, plan for that change, implement the change, and review (check) the effectiveness of that change. If the change is successful we implement it on a wider scale or look for another area where change is needed. Then we start the cycle again. This process keeps us looking for ways to gain efficiencies, keep costs down and provide better value to you.

Innovation is the creation of better or more effective products, processes, services, technologies, or ideas. This, in my mind, is where the rubber meets the road as it pertains to change. We are constantly looking for ways to improve current products, develop new products and serve our customers. That is what sets us apart from our competition.

Knight & Sons Monument Co. helps community celebrate brave girl's life

As 12-year-old Taylor Patterson courageously battled a rare form of cancer, the entire Madisonville, Kentucky community rallied behind her, offering prayer and support for Taylor and her family.

The staff at Knight & Sons Monument Co., along with the rest of Madisonville, felt a strong connection to the girl and her touching story.

"For the past seven weeks, over 18,000 of us monitored Facebook for updates on Taylor Patterson's condition," said Knight and Sons owner, Mark Knight. "Collectively, we offered up the power of prayer. Each time that Taylor took a step forward in her recovery, our hearts lifted. Her setbacks figuratively dropped us to our knees, asking God to grant a miracle. Alas, the miracle didn't arrive, at least not in the form of a cure that we had been seeking."

Taylor lost her courageous battle four months after suffering a relapse of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She was first diagnosed with the rare cancer of white blood cells in September 2010.

Students released balloons and Veterans saluted as the procession passed through town enroute to West Lawn Cemetery.

There were over 300 people at the graveside to celebrate Taylors life. By working closely with the funeral home, local florist, and the newspaper, Knight & Sons Monument Co. was able to conduct a beautiful service at absolutely no cost to the family.

Trigard was proud to provide a custom appliqué for the service, but even more proud to see one of our dealers so invested in their community.

We applaud the staff at Knight & Sons Monument Co. for their dedication to providing the families they serve with the best quality service and products available.

Watts family next to be featured in ad campaign

We recently took a road trip to Des Moines, Iowa, to interview the Watts family for our ongoing ad campaign. The Watts family has owned and operated Watts Vault and Monument for more than 50 years.

The Watts family knows that there isn't a single key to success. Their company is like a wheel, and each person is a spoke. For more than 50 years, the spokes have worked together to create outstanding customer experiences. That's what it means to be Trigard strong.

We extend a special thank you to the Watts family for taking the time to share their story.

Ivy Tech student wins Trigard Scholarship

Trigard proudly awarded a $250 scholarship to Jessee Brammer, a mortuary science student at Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Hosted by the Darby family, the scholarship winner and her fellow students experienced many facets of the death care industry during their visit to Trigard. They toured Trigard University and one of the funeral homes owned by the Darby family.

Product spotlight: Elite® urn vault

Our finest, most well-appointed urn vault, the Elite combines the strength and beauty of the Aegean® with yet another layer of protection and additional custom options.

For the Elite,  a hand-crafted sheet of stainless steel, copper, or bronze is bonded to the interior lining, while a matching metal cap is added to the exterior cover.

Decorative emblems, with honors and Appliqué® options as well as white marble and rose granite colors are also available for an added level of personalization.

Offer your families the protection they deserve. Learn more about the Elite urn vault, or call Customer Service at 800.637.1992 to order.

A single layer of protection isn't enough - on the beach or in the cemetery.

Layers protect your skin from the sun and protect the loved ones of the families you serve.

A Trigard lined, sealed burial vault provides a clean, dry casket space, protecting your families' loved one as well as their investment in the casket.  Unlike single-layer outer burial containers, a lined burial vault's layers of protection work together to provide strength your families can count on.

The gentle power of the Healing Tree

The gentle power of the Healing Tree® ceremony increases graveside value and creates lasting impressions with the families you serve.

During the interactive ceremony, a minister or family member reads the Healing Tree poem, inviting the family to take a Memory Ring™ from the vault to help remember their loved one.

Call 800.637.1992 to see how Trigard can help you to give your families even more value.

Heavy topic, light solution

When people deal with something heavy, sometimes their conversation tends to get light. The weather. What they had for dinner. Last night's ball game.

So it should be no surprise that while the Aegean® Ultra Healing Tree® urn vault from Trigard is a heavy hitter, it still knows how to keep things light. Thanks to a proprietary blend of high-strength, low-density concrete, the Healing Tree is available in a version that's as easy on the back as it is on the eyes.

Which is good. Because when you think about it, don't you already have enough heavy stuff to deal with?

Learn more about Trigard urn vaults or call Customer Service at 800.637.1992.
